Heirloom variety, rare.
A very modern colour, but an heirloom tulip bred in 1911. Deep red-purple with an orange-bronze tinge. Some described as ‘coffee-coloured’ or ‘Moroccan red’.
Late flowering, long lasting on tall, strong stems. Not often available, limited stock.
Month: late April / early May
Light: full sun
Soil: well drained sand, clay, loam, chalk, fertile
Type:single late tulip
Bulb size: 12cm+
Plant with glowing oranges and purples such as ‘Jimmy’ or ‘Slawa’.
Care: plant in autumn 10 – 15cm deep, after the first cold snap. Add grit to wet or heavy soils.
