Month: May – June
Light: full sun, partial shade
Bulb size: 6cm+
O. nutans is also known as the ‘nodding star of Bethlehem’. It is very fragrant and makes a long-lasting cut flower.
We think O. nutans’ silvery flowers would be a lovely foreground companion to hardy Gladiolus communis subsp. byzantinus.
Care: Plant in a sheltered position in autumn, 10cm deep and use a dry mulch over winter such as shredded bark. Alternatively keep in pots and move to a frost free position in winter. As with most bulbs, it will usually do well providing the soil is not too wet.
