Iris reticulata ‘Purple Gem’
An indigo-purple variation
An indigo-purple variation of I. reticulata with dark purple tips and a splash of white. Not quite as purple as ‘JD Dijt’, as shown in the images.
Light: full sun
Soil: well drained sand, clay, loam, chalk, moderately fertile
Bulb size: 5cm+
A hardy, long flowered iris that can be planted at the front of the border, en masse or in a pot where its fragrance can be savoured.
Care: plant 5cm deep in autumn, keep moist when growing and drier when dormant. Add grit to wet or heavy soils.
