The gregarious drumstick allium
1.5″ egg-shaped drumsticks of rose-purple dense umbels add the finishing touch in many planting schemes. A good pairing for many different plants.
Month: June – August
Light: full sun
Soil: well drained soil but moist
Bulb size: 6cm
It looks superb with blue eryngiums (sea holly), fiery crocosmia or scattered through ornamental grasses.
Sphaerocephalon is the extra touch of colour that really makes a border. Also know as drumstick allium, round-headed leek or round-headed garlic.
Care: plant about 5 – 8cm deep in autumn. Add grit where soils are heavy or wet.
