The Flower Bulb Company is the bud of an idea which has been a seed in waiting for nearly 20 years. We’re hoping it will turn into a brilliant bloom!
In 2015, on a wild, windy and quite often wet Welsh coast, The Flower Bulb Company was born. We buy a range of flower bulbs from British growers and from importers who bring in excellent quality Dutch bulbs.
In 2016 we moved to Cornwall and in early 2017 moved to a permanent residence at Poppy Cottage Garden in which we can also propagate and grow our own selection of bulbs, supplemented by the huge selection provided by our growers.
We love plants, gardens, flowers, the countryside and wildlife. We also know a fair bit about creating a lovely garden. The Company’s founding member, Caroline, is a qualified agricultural plant biologist who has since moved into horticulture from a life-long love of gardening.
Our flower bulbs
The Flower Bulb Company sells flower bulbs, corms, rhizomes and tubers, plus beautiful things such as tools and gifts.
Many of our flower bulbs are grown in the East of the UK. This means they are very much acclimatised to the British weather. Others come from the Netherlands and very occasionally Belgium. Most bulbs we sell are hardy but some are less so, this will be noted in the care instructions.
You might often see the size of bulbs for sale stated as e.g 12/14cm. As with many things (such as cakes), the bigger the better! Larger bulbs are more likely to produce more flowers. We always provide the largest bulbs of the best quality that we can obtain.
Flower bulbs are measured around their circumference.
Any flower noted with ‘RHS AGM’ has obtained a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. And any marked ‘NEW’ on the website simply means new to us, not a new variety.
We try and pot up some bulbs so we have some available during the growing season, however these are more difficult to post. We will be doing much more of this when we have a more permanent premises. Our main seasons are September to December for spring-flowering bulbs and February to April for summer-flowering bulbs.
And if you have any comments or feedback to share, please just get in touch.
Care for the environment
We used recycled packaging wherever possible. Our bulb bags are recycled paper and our postal boxes and cardboard packing is recycled/recylable too. Our air pillows are biodegradeable where possible.
We do not provide a printed catalogue in order to reduce our carbon footprint, through use of paper and ink, plus the postage of catalogues across the country.
The Flower Bulb Company address is Poppy Cottage, Ruan High Lanes, Truro, TR2 5JR. Sole proprietor Caroline Kenzie.
