Native to South Africa, this large bulb with funnel-shaped flowers on the top of tall purple stems can be grown with ease in the UK.
The large pink flowers are beautifully scented. The thick, strap-like leaves appear after the flowers and persist until the following summer when they die back before the flowers appear.

Soil: well drained, especially in winter.

Care: plant in spring or autumn with the bulbs just below the soil surface. Plant in a sunny border that is free draining or keep in large patio pot. The belladonna lily is hardy but like most bulbs does not like being too wet, will do better in a sheltered position.
